Cookie Notice
Last Updated: December 2025
This Cookie Notice (“Notice”) sets out how the Vodafone Foundation (“we”, “us” or “our”) uses and categorises cookies and other tracking technologies through our DIY Foundational Skills Platform (the “Platform”). We are committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected, and that we respect the extent of your consent given when you visit the Platform, where appropriate. This Cookie Notice should be read alongside our Privacy Notice, which explains how we use personal information.
If you have any questions about this Cookie Notice, please feel free to contact us at privacy@di4y.org.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small files that are placed on your computer or mobile device by a website when you visit it. They contain details of your browsing history on that website and distinguish you from other users. Cookies send data back to the originating website on each subsequent visit or allow another website to recognise the cookie. Cookies serve the purpose of making the Platform function in more user friendly and effective ways, and in order to tailor the Platform operations to your needs and preferences and generally improve your online user experience.
Although this notice refers to the general term ‘cookie’, it also applies to similar tracking technologies that we use (such as ‘web beacons’, ‘clear GIFs’ and ‘pixel tags’).
You can find out more about cookies at www.allaboutcookies.org.
2. Why do we use cookies?
We use cookies to:
- let you navigate and do things on the Platform – in other words, some cookies are necessary for our website(s) to function.
- ensure that the Platform is secure – for example, to make sure that any personal information that you give to us does not fall into the wrong hands.
3.Types Of Cookies Used
Websites typically use the following types of cookies and storage objects:
- Transient cookies, which will be deleted once you close your browser. Session cookies, which fall into the category of transient cookies, enable website(s) to identify different requests from your browser during the same session. Your device can be recognised once you return to the relevant website(s). Session cookies will be deleted once you log out of your account and/or close your browser.
- Persistent cookies. Persistent cookies expire or get automatically deleted after a set period; the duration differs depending on the specific cookie (see further details about the duration of specific cookies on the Platform in Section 4 below).
- The Platform may use cookies to identify you on future visits if you register for an account with us. This avoids you having to log-in again every time you visit the Platform.
Cookies can be first-party, which means that they’re owned by Vodafone Foundation.
Alternatively, cookies can be third-party. This means they’re not owned by the website which sets them and that the relevant information may be accessible to third parties.
4.Categories Of Cookies Used
We differentiate between cookies that are necessary for our websites’ technical features (also known as necessary cookies) and optional cookies. Under UK data protection law, organisations must provide you with the option to reject the use of cookies which do not fall under the “Necessary”, or “Essential” category.
However, please note that we do not use any non-essential cookies as part of the Platform – in other words, the only cookies we use are essential for the Platform to function (see section 4 for further details). As such, you cannot opt-out of our use of these Necessary cookies.
4.1 Which Cookies Do We Use?
The table below provides more information about the cookies we use and why.
Necessary Cookies
Strictly necessary cookies are required to provide you with the best experience when navigating through our website. Without the strictly necessary cookies we cannot provide some functionality necessary for our services and navigational redirects.
Cookie | Expires | Description |
XSRF-TOKEN | 2 hours | This cookie enhances visitor browsing security by preventing cross-site request forgery. |
Cookieyes consent | 1 year | CookieYes sets this cookie to remember users’ consent preferences so that their preferences are respected on subsequent visits to the Platform. It does not collect or store any personal information about the site visitors. |
__Secure-ENID | 13 months | The __Secure-ENID cookie is a type of secure cookie used for authentication and to ensure the security of user sessions. |
4.2 How to Identify, Delete, and/or Reject Cookies by Using your Browser Settings
As noted above, you cannot opt-out of the cookies placed on the Platform, because all of these are essential for the Platform to function. However, it remains open to you to restrict or block the cookies set by the Platform, or indeed any other website, using your browser. The ‘Help’ function within your browser will tell you how to do this, but you can also visit www.aboutcookies.org, which contains information on how to do this, as well as how to delete cookies. Please be aware that restricting cookies may impact on the functionality of the Platform.
Click on the links below to find out how to change your cookie settings in specific browsers and/or on particular operating systems:
There is also software available which enables you to use settings that allow to you choose which cookies are set on your digital device, such as the Ghostery app.
5.Changes to this Notice
We may update this Cookies Notice from time to time – for example, to take into account changes at Vodafone Foundation or to reflect changes in regulation or legislation.
We therefore recommend that you check this notice regularly. We aim to notify you of any significant changes by way of a notice on our website or by contacting you directly when reasonably possible.
