Digital Finance & Mobile Money 1: Introduction to Digital Finance

Course Description

This module introduces learners to digital finance and how it is changing the way people save, spend, send, and receive money. Learners will explore the differences between digital money and cash, become familiar with the common forms of digital money and channels used in Ethiopia and around the world, and learn about the key actors in the digital finance ecosystem. Through practical examples and local contexts, learners will reflect on their own money habits and build the knowledge and confidence to use digital financial services safely and responsibly.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this learning journey, learners will be able to: 

• Explain what digital finance is and describe the key differences between digital money and cash in daily life.
• Identify common forms of digital money and digital financial channels used in Ethiopia and around the world.
• Recognise the main actors in the digital finance ecosystem and the roles they play.
• Reflect on their personal money habits and assess their readiness to use digital finance safely.
