In this module, you’ll learn what platform-based gig work is and how digital labour platforms have grown alongside easy access to smartphones and the internet. You’ll look at the different types of digital labour platforms and forms of gig work, see how they differ from traditional employment, and see what they have in common with informal work. The module ends by looking at what digital labour platforms mean for gig workers, whether gig work is their side income, a way to gain experience while studying, or their main job.
